Since 1990 our ambition has never wavered. From humble beginnings, our vision and drive has seen us venture into new markets with confidence and stay ahead of market trends. Our mission is to help businesses of all sizes adapt to the future and take advantage of the opportunities that change brings. Sustainability is at the core of our offering. With our leading e-mobility solutions, we’re committed to guiding businesses through the energy transition, building solutions for a more sustainable, connected future.

This is where you come in. We are on a journey of growth. We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of technology innovation and we invite you along on this journey.

The role …

As a Full Stack Developer in our dedicated technology function, you’ll be a part of our Velocity development team.

Velocity is our customer web portal. It is built using Python (Django) and React and provides the user interface for over 2 million fuel card holders and hundreds of thousands of telematics users. It is a key part of our customer offering and we are constantly looking for ways to improve and develop the feature set. We have exciting plans for the next phase of development.

The front end is written in React.js, using GraphQL and REST to talk to the Django application, which makes use of the Django Rest Framework along with many other Django libraries.

We host on AWS using a range of their services, with a Postgres database hosting the application data.

We recognise that flexibility is important, so this role is available on a remote basis (for UK residents), or on a hybrid working model with time split between home and our impressive head office in Crewe, Cheshire.

What would your day to day look like?

  • Working on projects spanning large-scale development, small system improvements and bug fixes
  • Participating in daily stand-ups and team meetings
  • Using best practice and in a supportive team that achieves high coding standards
  • Ensuring quality delivery of software including creating documentation, completing testing and code reviews where needed

What do we expect of you?

We’re looking for you to bring proven, commercial, software development experience which includes work on tightly coupled, large scale web applications.

Your technical knowledge should include:

  • Python and/or Django
  • Frontend technologies (such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React)
  • Database technologies (such as Postgres, Oracle, MySQL or MSSQL)
  • Experience using git

Any knowledge of the following is advantageous:

  • Wider backend technologies (such as Java, Node.js etc)
  • Knowledge of front-end accessibility, optimisation, and performance best practices
  • AWS technologies
  • Databricks
  • Database design, and/or query optimisation skills
  • DevOps, CI/CD, Docker, Linux Sysadmin
  • Application Security

Just as important as your technical skills will be evidence that you are a good problem solver, a focussed and dedicated developer with the ability to work on your own as well as with a team.

What can you expect of us?

We have ambitious plans, and our technology function will be one of the driving forces behind that growth.

Joining us as a Developer will put you at the forefront of our journey as a technology-driven organisation. For you that means interesting work and plenty of ongoing opportunity for career progression.

You can expect:

  • A friendly culture that mirrors our proposition to our customers.
  • A fast-growing organisation that defines itself as being agile and innovative.
  • A drive for continuous improvement, which you will be empowered to get behind from day one.
  • A commitment to building a working environment that values inclusivity, innovation, agility, and drive.
  • An accessible and approachable management team.
  • For any occasions where you do visit the office, a modern purpose-built head office in Crewe, complete with onsite gym, canteen, games rooms, and coffee bar style break out areas.

And of course, you will be compensated competitively, with a good range of core benefits including 25 days holiday, pension, and life assurance.
